About this place
Steaming bowls of simmered pork offal and tofu arrive at the table alongside pans of pork coated in a savory-sweet glaze. Tucked away in the residential neighborhood of Misono in Itabashi, Kashiwo Shokudo (かしを食堂) builds its menu around hearty, unpretentious teishoku set meals designed to accompany freshly cooked white rice.
Richly Braised Motsu Tofu and Flavorful Ginger Pork
Among the diner's longtime favorites is the motsu tofu. Generous chunks of tender, slow-simmered offal rest beside tofu that has absorbed the seasoned cooking broth, topped with sliced green onions for a comforting and deeply savory dish. Another standout is the pork stir-fried with onion and ginger, an aromatic, generously portioned plate that pairs effortlessly with rice.
Options displayed on the blackboard feature traditional homestyle fare, such as fried squid, stir-fried pork and vegetables, classic ginger pork, and simmered pork with shirataki noodles served with a raw egg. Diners can tailor their meal with ease, whether by adding a side of natto to a set or pairing small side dishes with bottled beer, Hoppy, or a lemon sour in the evening.
A Welcoming, Spacious Setting for Solo Diners and Groups
Behind its unassuming storefront, the dining room is surprisingly spacious, outfitted with counter seating, roomy tables, and raised tatami seating areas. Its quiet, homelike warmth makes it an easy place to drop in on your own and focus comfortably on a meal.
The shop operates during lunch and dinner hours and offers dedicated free parking on-site. Payment is cash only, so having coins or small yen bills ready ensures a smooth end to the meal.
